Ways to Give
There's More Than One Way to Change a Teenager's Story
Every student at Heartland arrives because a family said yes to help — and because someone they may never meet made that help possible. Giving doesn’t always mean writing a check. Some of the ways below cost you less than you’d expect, and a few can save you money at tax time.

Not Sure Where to Begin?
Most people give the simple way: a one-time gift, or a monthly commitment that goes wherever the need is greatest. If that’s you, our team can point you in the right direction in about two minutes.
More Ways to Give
Give in the Way That Makes Sense for You
From retirement accounts to stock to cryptocurrency, there are several ways to support Heartland students. Each option uses a secure tool that handles the paperwork and makes sure your receipt reaches you.
Give From Your IRA
If you’re 70½ or older, giving directly from your IRA can lower your taxable income — and it’s a clean way to satisfy a required minimum distribution.
Donor-Advised Fund
If you already have a donor-advised fund, you can recommend a grant to Heartland in a few clicks and note how you’d like the gift used.
Donate Stock
Giving appreciated stock lets you avoid capital gains tax and, in most cases, deduct the full value of the shares. We can send transfer details for your broker.
Wills and Trusts
A free online tool walks you through writing a will or trust in about twenty minutes — on its own, or before you meet with an attorney.
Cryptocurrency
We accept Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies. Giving crypto directly often carries better tax treatment than selling it first.
Beneficiary Designations
An IRA, 401(k), or life insurance policy doesn’t pass through your will. Those beneficiaries are named separately, and we can help.
